Spanish Artist José Carlos Naranjo one of the ten artists shortlisted for the Griffin Art Prize 2015
Spanish Artist José Carlos Naranjo (Villamartín, Cádiz-1983) is one of the ten artists shortlisted for the Griffin Art Prize 2015. A showcase exhibition of their works will be held at the Griffin Galleryfrom Thursday November 19 to December 19 2015. Judges Emma Crichton-Miller, Jenni Lomax, Jenny Linden-Urnes and Stuart Semple will meet at Griffin Gallery to select the winner who will be announced at the exhibition Private View on Wednesday November 18.
Olmo Blanco’s drawings transform everyday contexts. Geometrical patterns cover walls, floors and the most common objects. His works are based on the ephemeral, in the persistent repetition of simple figures that turn into a kind of mantra, into a memory of our most recent archaeology. This is the first time that Olmo visits Edinburgh.

Shot in stark black and white, La Muerte En La Alcarria places our two heroes (Spanish musicians Los Hermanos Cubero playing themselves) in the vast, endless plains that sleep underneath the infinite dome of a cloudless sky, in sleepy villages where not a soul walks about, and in a forest immersed in the pitch black night, where the spirits of the land roam. The landscape, at times, is so flat and barren that it borders on abstract. But where the silence seems absolute, some people hear music.

‘Las heridas del viento’ is a tense and moving exploration of the devastating effect that unrequited love can have upon an individual. Juan (Kiti Mánver) and David (Dani Muriel) are strangers with little in common. The death of Rafael, David’s patriarchal and unsentimental father, brings the two men together and forces them to confront the reality of their relationship with him and the way it has shaped their identity. Spanish architects SelgasCano are designing the 15th Serpentine Pavilion. The award-winning studio, headed by José Selgas and Lucía Cano, is the first Spanish architecture practice to be asked to design the temporary Pavilion on the Serpentine’s lawn in London’s Kensington Gardens.
The Other Fair (2015) visitors have the opportunity to meet, discuss and buy from 130 emerging artists chosen by an esteemed panel of experts. In this edition several Spanish creators present their works like Elena García de la Fuente, Álvaro Tamarit, Alejandra Corral (Kuska), Carmen M. Castañeda, Carolina Amigo, Francisco Nicolás or Lorena García Mateu.
