For those unfamiliar with Ricardo Cavolo´s, work, it could be summarised as an illustration of the opium fuelled fantasies of a Russian sailor recently returned from an arduous voyage around the world.
Where does the process of designing a product end? How important is a product’s packaging — or is it what’s on the inside that counts? Do you judge a book by its cover? Have you ever bought a new item of clothing and liked the label so much that you kept it?
It must have been around one o’clock because lunch was being served. Nothing too special, it was a Thursday and a week like any other. Mike, the Events Manager for BFI, took me to one side and asked me to take particularly good care of this one table. I look over and see two men sitting at it, one of whom is wearing glasses with thick, dark, wooden frames. If there was an artist in the house, it was definitely this guy!
Spanish architects SelgasCano are designing the 15th Serpentine Pavilion. The award-winning studio, headed by José Selgas and Lucía Cano, is the first Spanish architecture practice to be asked to design the temporary Pavilion on the Serpentine’s lawn in London’s Kensington Gardens.

The Other Fair (2015) visitors have the opportunity to meet, discuss and buy from 130 emerging artists chosen by an esteemed panel of experts. In this edition several Spanish creators present their works like Elena García de la Fuente, Álvaro Tamarit, Alejandra Corral (Kuska), Carmen M. Castañeda, Carolina Amigo, Francisco Nicolás or Lorena García Mateu.
Towards the end of Goya: The Witches and Old Women Album, there is a drawing of a poor old woman, confused and terrified, legs up in the air, tumbling down a flight of stairs. The title of this work is Showing off? Remember your age. Goya was a funny man.
The title of Jardiel Poncela’s most popular work conjures up a pastoral image, quite middle class. A sleepy little girl in a springtime garden, stood beneath a flowering tree… It’s not until the very end that the audience finds out that the title is actually referring to the place where a body has been buried — that little girl from the pastoral image was actually the victim of a family of lunatics and a class system in which social appearances don’t quite mirror the truth.
