All the World’s a Stage: Jorge de Juan and the biggest Spanish theatre project outside Spain

by Brit Es Magazine May 27, 2014

On a sunny London morning in February, we meet Jorge de Juan, Spanish actor, director and producer who came to live in London just a few months ago, following a long career in Spain. He tells us that in the short space of time since he arrived, he has been to see more than fifty plays in the capital. Amongst these, of course, are a handful of Spanish classics performed at the Arcola Theatre in Hackney.

Saelia Aparicio: Searching for the sublime among strata of waste

by Christian San Martin May 23, 2014

A lively Facebook chat with Saelia Aparicio
I type the name Saelia Aparicio into Google, just as you might do the name of a blind date as a safety measure, to make sure they don’t turn out to be a serial killer. The result: a veritable avalanche of information and content.

Ernesto Cánovas at Halcyon Gallery

by João Duarte Silva May 4, 2014

Halcyon Gallery doesn’t look like your regular West End galleries. It is huge and palatial, with high ceilings and polished marble, like the house of a classier Tony Montana. As I entered I wondered just when exactly would they sniff out I didn’t belong there and kindly invite me to remove myself from the premises. They never did, of course, instead they were quite welcoming and they even took my jacket and fed me.

Same place, same price. Pelucas y Tacones: a Spanish fiesta in the heart of London Pop.

by Antonio Sierra January 22, 2014

The party started out as a session of good, and somewhat gay, Spanish music for a small audience made up mostly of Spanish gay men and lesbians living in the capital. But the music started attracting more and more people, mostly Spaniards, who then brought their British friends with them and others from all over the world.

“My challenge is to take sound art out of the galleries”

by Elena Manrique May 22, 2013

Musician, architect and sound artist. Pablo A. Padilla combines perfectly his three professional facets and he confesses he doesn´t feel more comfortable in any one in particular. “The idea is try to connect all of them, although you must know there is a difference between music and sound art, they are not the same at all”. According to the artist from Madrid, based in London for three years, the main difference resides in a matter of time: “In music the time is essential whilst in sound art it’s not”, explains.

An Interview with Ana Inés Jabares Pita

by Brit Es Magazine May 15, 2013

I came to London to do an MA in Set Design at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. It has really opened my eyes and given me lots of great opportunities. I am currently a member of the Society of British Designers and I have contributed to their magazine, Blue Pages. I started working with Second Skin Theatre just a few days after I handed in the final project for my Masters. Real life is not at all like working on speculative projects, there are so many limitations: space, budget… but in some sense I can turn these to my advantage; it allows me to use my creativity to the full
