Brit Es Magazine spoke to Andrew ‘Whitey’ White and VJ (drums) in the Festival of Benicassim in Spain. Here you are the full interview where they talk about their music, their favorites other bands, politics and much more. A video by Guido Benedicto.
Where does the process of designing a product end? How important is a product’s packaging — or is it what’s on the inside that counts? Do you judge a book by its cover? Have you ever bought a new item of clothing and liked the label so much that you kept it?
The following list is not a top 5, but merely a list of five Spanish films, in no particular order, which British viewers might not be familiar with. You may have noticed that I have left out filmmakers such as Almodóvar and Amenábar, and films such as El Orfanato and Mar Adentro. This was done deliberately, since those directors and films are already quite well known by the average film goer. So, on to the list!
La Gran Familia Española (Family United) tries really hard to please everyone. With its pastel and gold palette, handsome cast in suspenders and Converse, a painful wedding entrance music montage to the sound of Calvin Harris’ Feel So Close and, of course, the backdrop of the almighty Spanish national team beating Holland at the South Africa 2010 World Cup Final, the film is really desperate to have in its poster one of those laurel encircled quotes saying something like “…feel-good movie of the year!”.
Last summer, Halcyon Gallery, which had already earned a mention and praise from Brit Es, offered us a private pass to their new Pedro Paricio exhibition.
On a sunny London morning in February, we meet Jorge de Juan, Spanish actor, director and producer who came to live in London just a few months ago, following a long career in Spain. He tells us that in the short space of time since he arrived, he has been to see more than fifty plays in the capital. Amongst these, of course, are a handful of Spanish classics performed at the Arcola Theatre in Hackney.
My Spanish friends have expressed similar bemusement at our saccharine traditions. What on earth do decorated eggs, a generous rabbit and flowery hats have to do with the Passion? Probably nothing really, which may be why I like them so much.
So, what is Christmas like in England? Is it similar to how we do it in Spain? And how do the Spanish festivities match up to those of our European neighbours?
The economic crisis has hit and continues to affect commercial areas in cities with businesses forced to close on a daily basis. No area is immune, not even those located in close proximity to a city centre’s historic business district. Both traditional and new businesses are suffering during this economic slowdown.
