UNPREDICTABLE, a film about Terry Day directed by Blanca Regina

‘Unpredictable’ is a feature film that evaluates the work of groundbreaking musician and artist Terry Day, bringing together some of the founding members of the UK free improvised music scene like Steve Beresford, Evan Parker, David Toop, Charlie Hart, George Khan and Mike Figgis. The film reflects on their lasting influence and uncovers previously unknown aspects of Terry Day ́s artistic output.

Blanca Regina (Madrid 1980) is an artist, teacher and curator who is currently involved in creating audiovisual performances, installations and film. Her research and practice encompass expanded cinema, free improvisation, moving image, photography and audiovisual performance. In London, she co-funded with Steve Beresford and later Jack Goldstein ‘Strange Umbrellas’, a platform for free improvised music and visual art. During 2012-2014 she curated performances at Music Hackspace. She is initial co-founder of the Live Cinema Foundation.

She has played with various artists, including sound and video performances with The Lappetites, Terry Day, Leafcutter John, Beresford and Kispert. Current works in development include her collaboration with Critical Practice Group and the direction of ‘Unpredictable’ a film about Terry Day and ‘Unpredictable series’ a series of exhibitions, talks and performances.

The film has been in production for three years. Blanca Regina and Pierre Bouvier Patron filmed countless performances, interviews and moments with Terry Day. It has been a constant discovery and is still unfolding. The ‘Unpredictable’ team started off documenting events, performances, interviews and soundscapes, and will complete it with narration from Steve Beresford, David Toop and Mike Figgis.

The audience will get a clear sense and understanding of the person behind the work; they will get to know Terry’s character, humour and commitment to his work. His path is rich and honest, and he has influenced so many other artists along the way, because of his spontaneity, his charm and his creativity. The film reveals what free improvisation is!

Blanca Regina has launched a crowdfunding campaing to support the final production stretch in the making of UNPREDICTABLE and to start post-production.

They are looking for support to raise production value for our last several months of shooting, to keep the team, cover our production expenses, and to hire other professionals to carry this film to the next level. In their crowdfunding campaing site you have all the information about ‘What they need and what you get” if you support them. Please, check out, spread the word and share this page, and if you can don’t loose the opportunity to become a core collaborator to a documentary about this great artist.
