SUR: Laura Figueras

Catalan designer Laura Figueras launched her first fashion label, Bambi by Laura, in 2003. She later moved to London, and in 2012 created a new kind of luxury fashion label, SUR and made her debut in the Spring-Summer 2013 edition of the Barcelona Fashion.

For her Autumn/Winter collection for 2013-14, entitled “Okinawa”, she drew inspiration from the southern Japanese tropical island of the same name. Her style references range from 90s classics, like the work of Yojhi Yamamoto, to the 70s model Tina Chow. Her latest collection features a combination of Spanish leather, Yorkshire wools and Italian silks, and has three key sources of inspiration: Okinawa, flowers and the photography of Tim Walker.

The designer’s pieces are notable for their straight, well-defined cuts, with pleated skirts, straight-legged, high-waisted, ankle length trousers, blouses with billowing sleeves and peplum waists, and double-breasted jackets with a vaguely masculine feel. All this in dark colours, like olive green, cobalt blue, wine red or mustard, paired with white or camel.
