Description

This book is a conversation that brings together two photographic series from two European cities: Madrid and London. Observations and notes are juxtaposed to evoke a series of urban tales and stories from the streets of both cities. Conejo’s creation is a visual dialogue, which, as Brexit is being negotiated, confronts us with idiosyncrasies of both cultures, pulling them beyond those political negotiations; an otherness full of nuance that makes his work a satirical and critical stroll through the streets of an imaginary city of (im)possible encounters.

The prologue

The prologue of Pablo Conejo’s photobook is written by Arianna Rinaldo. Rinaldo is an independent curator and photography editor, director of the OjodePez magazine published by La Fábrica and art director of the international photography festival, Cortona On The Move (Tuscany, Italy). She was director of the archive of Magnum Photos New York (1998-2001) and member of the jury for the World Press Photo Contest in 2009.

The photographer

The work of Pablo Conejo (Madrid 1981) hovers somewhere between visual anthropology and photographic documentary. In 2004, he moved to London to study photography, and it was there that his curiosity using this medium to explore urban surroundings and the many ways of living in them began to grow. His fixation with this way of looking at the world has led to a Master’s degree in Urban Sociology from Goldsmiths, not to mention the creation of Urbiquity a platform for visual urbanism.
